PANAMA: Energy Tender Attracts investment / Press / The tender for up to 350 megawatts of power, from 2018, will inject close to $ 700 million in new investment power plants.
Yesterday, at the tender called by the Electric Transmission Company, SA (Etesa) 27 new generation companies were presented, mostly combined with local capital or foreign companies.
Among the proposals there are companies based bunker generation, natural gas, methane, propane and ethane gas.
Both entrepreneurs attending as representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) and Etesa held interest generated by the competition and the proposals from other sources that allow varying the energy mix.
Offers that are selected, based on the lowest price, will have 30 months to build the plants and should start generating in 2018.
“We are pleased by the interest received and the proposed prices are very competitive,” said the manager Etesa Ivan Barria.
It is buying power and associated energy for 10 years and companies are selected should start producing in three years.
The contract would be awarded one or more undertakings, depending on prices that have been offered.
* With the new plants that will enter the market in three years, the country’s installed capacity will exceed 3,000 megawatts.
