The President, Juan Carlos Varela, accompanied by the director of Metro de Panama, Roberto Roy and crew of the consortium, launched the construction of Line 2 of Panama Metro.
During his speech, the president said that this work is part of the modernization plan of Urban Transportation System which will be integrated.
“This mass transit system will begin to take shape with the start of Line 2, which will shorten travel times for hundreds of thousands of Panamanians living in the East,” he said.
The head of Metro said it is a work which has been highly anticipated, the construction of this line will substantially improve the quality of life of Panamanians Eastern sector.
“The work is designed to carry 40,000 passengers in peak hours, will also facilitate the forefront of trade and tourism in the region,” said Roy.
He also referred to the construction traffic will result. Roy explained that implement a road program in conjunction with the Transit Authority and Land Transport (ATTT) and other entities so that the least possible involvement is taken.
Metro Line 2 Panama
It will stretch 21 kilometers of elevated track with 16 stations and a duration of 44 months for construction.
The trains will have the latest technology that allows them to have a lower energy consumption.
It will benefit residents of San Miguelito and Panama East with a route from San Miguelito to Nuevo Tocumen, in the eastern suburbs of Panama City, a distance of approximately 35 minutes.
The official ceremony takes place in the village of Mañanitas.
