Tourism in Panama increased by $ 279.2 million, or 4.6%, during the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period of 2014, said an official source.
This is attributed to increases in restaurant services (5.4%) and hotels (3.0%), and expenditure incurred by tourists (12.6%), according to a report prepared by the Department of Economic and Social Analysis of the Ministry of Economy Panama and Finance (MEF).
Add to this the increased entry of visitors (7.0%) is added, mainly from South and Central America, the Ministry of Economy.
The analysis indicates that the activity of hotels and restaurants represents on average 3.1% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Panama, partly because of the efforts to promote the country in fairs and international media, both public and private level, he said the Ministry.
Panama has the largest hotel offer in Central America, enough to cover the entry of passengers arriving by major airports in the country, the report said. “That makes Panama City in one of the most attractive cities in the region for tourism, trade, business, meetings, conferences and conventions, allowing our country to compete successfully with other major cities in Latin America” He highlighted the MEF.
