El financiamiento a través de las tarjetas de crédito continúa con un marcado dinamismo, según el más reciente reporte del regulador
En abril de 2015, el saldo de las tarjetas de crédito en el Sistema Bancario Nacional se expandió 15.5%, respecto a igual mes de 2014. Así lo muestran cifras de la Superintendencia de Bancos de Panamá.
En abril de 2014, el saldo de las tarjetas de crédito sumaba $1,261.5 millones y en abril de 2015 alcanzó $1,457.6 millones, un incremento de $196.1 millones durante estos doce meses.
El financiamiento a través de las tarjetas de crédito ha sido un componente relevante en la expansión del consumo en Panamá.
En este sentido, el liderazgo de este mercado lo tiene BAC, que alcanzó una cartera de $309.2 millones en abril de 2015, resultado de una expansión de 10.1% anual.
Otra entidad financiera con una buena posición es el Banco General, que logró un financiamiento en el componente de tarjetas de crédito por $238 millones en abril de este año, luego de un crecimiento de 22.6% en los últimos doce meses.
El Citibank mantiene una fuerte penetración en el mercado de tarjetas de crédito, ocupando la tercera posición en abril de 2015, con una cartera de $163 millones y un crecimiento anual de 7.3%.
Banistmo, Banesco y St. Georges Bank también tienen una importante participación en el financiamiento a través de tarjetas de crédito. En abril de 2015, estos bancos alcanzaron saldos en tarjetas de crédito que sumaron $163.2 millones, $149.5 millones y $121.9 millones, respectivamente.
Llama la atención el caso del Banco Ficohsa, que pasó de tener un saldo de tarjetas de crédito de $2.9 millones en abril de 2014 a alcanzar un monto de $23.4 millones en abril 2015, una expansión significativa de 695.6%, lo que evidencia el interés de esta entidad financiera de penetrar y competir en este mercado ( Ver tabla ).
El economista Joey Levy manifestó que las deudas de los panameños son de consumo y que tenemos que protegernos, sobre todo cuando se trata de deudas. ‘Hay que ahorrar y pagar los préstamos’, recomendó Levy.
